The Changhua County Magistrate was born in Lukang and is naturally very familiar with Lukang Jian Dui. Every Dragon Boat Festival, she personally visits Lukang Township to give away Jian Dui. We took advantage of the school ribbon-cutting time to meet with the County Magistrate and showcase our exploration results. |
At 9:00 AM on September 18, 2025, because our school did not have enough classrooms, the Changhua County Government specially injected nearly 120 million NTD to build the second campus of Ludong Elementary School on the land of Lukang Wenxiao 6. |
During the performance, although sweat slid down our cheeks, besides focusing on playing the right pitch, we had an even more important mission in mind—to introduce our CyberFair topic "Lukang Jian Dui" to the County Magistrate during the golden gap after the performance! |
When the last note fell and applause erupted, we quickly switched modes. Without caring to catch our breath, several of us serving as "Ludong Sky-Patching Squad" members immediately grabbed our prepared materials and rushed toward the County Magistrate, who was just moving to the ribbon-cutting area. |
"Hello, Magistrate! We are the Ludong Sky-Patching Squad!" we gathered our courage and greeted loudly. As a daughter of Lukang, upon hearing that we were researching "Lukang Jian Dui (Man Jian Dui)" and the legend of "Nüwa Patching the Sky," the Magistrate's eyes immediately lit up. |
She kindly stopped walking and bent down to listen to our introduction. The Magistrate smiled and said that Jian Dui is a Lukang flavor she grew up eating, and she personally gives Jian Dui to the folks every Dragon Boat Festival. She didn't expect that children nowadays would actually be willing to spend time deeply researching the origins of this traditional delicacy. |
As an authentic Lukang native, seeing a group of us older kids in uniform having researched traditional "Jian Dui" so thoroughly, her eyes were full of approval.
The Magistrate also specifically pointed out that the sky-patching on Tianchuan Day (the 20th day of the first lunar month) in Hakka customs is different from ours in Lukang!
In those short few minutes, it didn't feel like we were facing a serious high-ranking official, but rather sharing our discovered treasure with a neighborhood aunt. The Magistrate not only affirmed our topic selection but also encouraged us to spread this "sky-patching" spirit of Lukang through the CyberFair. |
